Texas School For the Deaf has won first State Championship in 63-year History
Austin Texas – The TSD Rangers won their first-ever six-man TAPPS-Division 1 state championship in the program’s 63-year history. On Friday, November 11th, they defeated Veritas Academy 63-32.
As COVID-19 put the season in jeopardy of even starting, head coach John Moore gave them words of encouragement. “Bigger hearts, stronger bonds, harder hits,” he signed as every player is either deaf or hard of hearing.
Since the Pandemic started, the Rangers and its division adjusted to new rules. 80 yards of the field is in use instead of 100 and 6 players are on the field instead of 11.
Veritas Academy beat them the very first game of the season, making the feat that much more impressive. The Rangers finished the impressive season with a 4 game winning streak.
With this new boost of confidence, can the TSD Rangers repeat as champs next season?
