Bogota, Colombia – On August 4, 2020, former Colombian president and senator Alvaro Uribe was placed under house arrest. He has recently faced election fraud, campaign fraud and money laundering charges, and allegedly was an ally of the drug lord Pablo Escobar at one time. He is also said to have been a long-time ally of the current president Ivan Duque, whose 2018 presidential election has come under investigation for potential fraud.
